URBNIA’s founders began as engineers of the systems cities depend on. Alphin C. Tom led smart-city programmes for EXPO 2020 Dubai (opens in a new tab) and Dubai Design District (opens in a new tab), and wrote his TUM thesis on AI governance for cities. Andreas Corusa led Horizon 2020 and German smart-grid pilots. Together they built DISCCO (opens in a new tab), the collaboration platform behind Europe’s €560M+ Clean Energy Transition Partnership (opens in a new tab).
